SEEING IT AS IT IS
There have been times, I admit, when I thought that teenagers were just loose assemblages of limbs and teeth left over
from the Creation. But maybe not always so.
Kristen Byrnes is a 15-year-old student at Portland High School, Maine. When she is not running track and field, she takes
all honors classes, including Earth Science. After becoming upset at what she decided was sloppy science when the
sensationalized Al Gore movie "An Inconvenient Truth" was shown to her science class, she decided to create her own web site,
in which she very politely and scientifically takes the global-warming-caused-by-man theory apart. According to her
introduction, “It uses the most updated information provided by scientists and researchers and interjects common sense, an
important component missing from the global warming debate.” I couldn't have put it better.
How does a 15-year-old high-schooler see the obvious that's apparently impenetrable to many experts and authorities that
some people are saying it should be made a criminal offense to question? Perhaps because her situation enables her to look
at the subject, as the web site states, "without financial and political bias." Or is somebody now going to claim that she's
been bought by an oil company?
