The Electric Cosmos
Prelude To A New Paradigm?
Mathematics is purely deductive. When something is said to be "proved," it means that the conclusion necessarily follows from the axioms. Of itself, it can't show anything as being "true" in the sense of describing the real world. All of the shelves of volumes serve simply to make explicit what was contained in the assumptions. If some mathematical descriptions happen to approximate the behavior of some real-world phenomena over certain ranges sufficiently closely to allow useful predictions, obviously that can be immensely beneficial. But the only measure of if, and if so to what degree, this is true, can be actual observation. In other words, reality is in no way obligated to mimic formal systems of symbol manipulation devised by humans.
It has seemed to me for a long time that much of cosmology gets its science precisely backward. And the weirder the stories get about how the universe "is," on the basis of something that came out of nothing more solid than some equations or a computer program, the more my suspicion is reinforced.
All of which leads me to mention a movement among some physicists and engineers that seems to be emerging, which questions the entire gravity-dominated model, postulating instead a universe formed primarily of plasma and shaped by electromagnetic phenomena. Just about all of the "mysteries" and "anomalies" that plague the conventional picture and result in ever more bizarre attempts at resolution are readily and simply explicable on this basis, the group maintains. A good place for those interested to start would be at Electric-Cosmos.org which was pointed out to me by Mike Miller and contains a good introductory run-down along with many links to other sources.
Extracts from the Home Page:
There is a revolution just beginning in astronomy/cosmology that will rival the one set off by Copernicus and Galileo. This revolution is caused by the growing realization that the cosmos is highly electrical in nature.
It is becoming clear that 99% of the universe is made up of matter in the plasma state. But, astronomers claim, instead, that 99% of the universe is "invisible matter".
When confronted by observations that cast doubt on the validity of their theories, astronomers have typically conjured up imaginary entities such as neutron stars, weakly interacting massive particles, strange energy, and black holes. When confronted by solid evidence such as Halton Arp's photographs that contradict the Big Bang Theory, their response is to refuse him access to any major telescope in the U.S.
Instead of wasting time in a futile battle trying to convince entrenched mainstream astronomers to seriously investigate the Electric/Plasma Universe ideas, a growing band of plasma scientists and engineers are simply bypassing them. A new electric plasma-based paradigm that does not find new discoveries to be "enigmatic and puzzling", but rather to be predictable and consistent with an electrical point of view, is slowly but surely replacing the old paradigm wherein all electrical mechanisms are ignored.
