The War In An Alternate Universe

"How Gore Lied Us Into War" is the title of a hilarious piece of satire by William S. Lind, featured on September 3 at antiwar.com. Hilarious, but at the same time a sobering assessment of the situation today in terms that reveal the underlying reality by reversing the setting to strip away familiar biases and prejudices. The first paragraph opens:

When President Al Gore was inaugurated in January 2001, few Americans imagined that before his first term ended, our country would be at war with Sweden. Indeed, Mr. Gore's campaign suggested he would reduce American commitments abroad, avoid foreign adventures and forgo "nation building," which American voters long ago realized costs heaps of money and does not work . . .
