Idiocy Running Rampant

Zero-Tolerance Madness

More from Rob Rackansky. The Wall Street Journal online Opinion Journal has archived their stories on the stupidity of "zero tolerance" policies over the past several months, including:

-- An eight-year-old Jonesboro, Ark., boy suspended from school for brandishing a piece of breaded chicken

-- Two eight-year-olds in Irvington, N.J., charged with "making terroristic threats" for playing with paper guns. Apparently, the local police chief defended school officials and the district's policy by pointing out that " . . . paper guns are particularly dangerous. Because they're made of paper, a miscreant can slip them right past metal detectors."

-- An eight-year-old third-grader suspended from school for drawing weapons. That is, drawing them -- as in sketching, with a pencil. (How long, I wonder, until pencils are banned from schoolrooms.)
