Dinosaur Dynamics

Why dinosaurs couldn't have stood up under the conditions that exist on Earth today

I receive a steady input of comments and questions from people intrigued by earlier postings on why dinosaurs couldn't have stood up under the conditions that exist on Earth today, let alone have moved around. In short, for whatever reason, the gravity in times gone by must have been less than it is now. A good article on the details of why is "The Impossible Dinosaurs" by Ted Holden, at www.kronia.com/symposium/holden.txt

But such a state of affairs doesn't fit the prevailing scientific paradigm, and so mainstream science ignores it. I remember being on an SF convention panel some years ago where this topic came up. After all the kinds of things that Ted Holden goes into had been debated, another member of the panel, who was a scientist, shook his head and insisted that there was no reason for supposing that the gravity of the Earth might have changed. I said, "But we've been talking about reasons for the last hour." Such, I suppose, is the power of indoctrination into a discipline.
